One hour after waving goodbye to Mal’s family the girls and I left to go to Italy…….it took longer to get to Stansted Airport (and cost more) than the flight itself! But we survived the pushing and shoving to get onto the budget airline and the flight itself and arrived in Pisa about 11.30pm….to be met by Bernadette and shown our fantastic apartment! So huge compared to accommodation in London!
After a good sleep we went exploring with Bernadette. Words can’t describe how delightful Lucca is! The old town, where we are staying, is still fully enclosed by the Medieval Walls and is just postcard perfect……and the best thing is that it is not touristy at all (at least not at this time of year).
The girls and I did a day trip to Pisa and a day to Florence – both of which were great.
Mal joined us on Friday night and we spent the weekend walking the walls, browsing the antique markets, enjoying time with Bernadette and Andrew and family, eating fantastic food, drinking lots of coffee and even more wine. It was really hard to leave Lucca and I certainly understand why the Hourigan’s have made it their home for the past 8 years! And I have to put in a plug for Destination Lucca for anyone making the trip to Italy because I have seen all of their apartments and they are all fantastic and can highly recommend the service you will receive from these ex-pat Aussies.
